Downtowner Motor Inn, Main and Union Streets
Danville, Virginia, 1971

The Downtowner was a motor inn chain with locations across the south, midwest and west. Not sure if any remain standing, but the chain went out of business and this one stood empty for years until it was razed in 2012. I always admired this building with its mid-century CMUs and its signature mondrian-esque mural on the back.  Danville is my hometown <3

Postcard reads:
"118 completely air-conditioned guest rooms, each equipped with telephone, TV, Private bath and radiant heat. Free Swimming Pool, Sun Deck and Free Parking. Conveniently located for shoppers. Spacious Dining Room, and Black Horse Cellar with dancing nightly, Ballroom, Private Parties and Convention Facilities up to 600."

All are unused, blank and show little sign of aging, but the entire stack has bent upwards in the middle.

Postcards are shipped securely, in protective cardboard, First Class as a package, and they are secured in a plastic sleeve and/or covered in a plastic wrap.
